Training in Year 1.

In stage 1 we’ll provide you with skills you’ll need for a future career in the marine environment. For example you’ll need to be able to use a powerboat safely for transporting your dive team to the worksite, you’ll need to be able to manage rescues, emergencies and if necessary administer medical aid. You’ll need to be able to call for help and communicate efficiently with coastguards and other people at sea and, if all else fails, you’ll need to be able to deploy a liferaft and survive at sea until assistance arrives! If successful you’ll acquire nationally recognised certificates for all of your training which you can use to add to your CV when you graduate.

HSE First Aid at Work

Oxygen Administration

Boat Handling

VHF Short Range Certificate including GMDSS

Sea Survival

In your Stage 1 you’ll gain all these skills and training at the Diving & Marine Centre here at the University to prepare you for learning to dive in Stage 2. For those of you that have never dived before we'll arrange an experience dive session at a local swimming pool to give you a taster of what’s to come next.
