Training in Year 1:

Boat Handling

The aim of this course is to give divers with little or no experience of handling small open power boats, an insight into the safe use of such craft on coastal waters, the equipment they should carry and a knowledge of the aspects of seamanship, tides and weather which govern their general use for diving operations.

This course is a training requirement for the academic module incorporating the HSE Professional Scuba Diver qualification and is designed to prepare divers to act in the role of coxswain for a support boat accompanying and under the instruction of the primary diving vessel.

On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the University of Plymouth Boat Handling Certificate which can be converted to the equivalent qualification issued by BS-AC and the RYA.
