Richard Barrett

Civil Engineering student

My name is Richard Barrett, I am a mechanical engineering student at the university. During the summer of 2002 I completed the four week intensive HSE Professional SCUBA (Part 4) course offered by the University Diving and Marine Centre. This really gave me a taste for diving as a full time occupation. As a result I continued my diver training to become a PADI SCUBA Instructor and have worked hard to find work as a commercial diver.

Throughout my career to date I have worked for a number of diving companies offering me a wide range of experiences from teaching recreational diving in the Red Sea to maintenance work in the docks at Bristol and London. However the course completed at the University has stood me in good standing wherever and whatever I have been doing.

The University Diving & Marine Centre offers a fantastic opportunity for all aspiring commercial divers to experience what diving for hire and reward is really all about.
